How do I apply?
Call the Moondance office to see if there is still availability. If a spot is available, you can secure your space by placing the $800 deposit on either a Visa, MasterCard or American Express, or by check. You’ll then need to complete the on line application. Space fills quickly after the first of the year, so we encourage you to act quickly to guarantee your desired trip.
When should I apply?
Since we limit the size of our groups, some trips start to fill as early as December, while other trips will fill later in the spring. We recommend enrolling as soon as possible to get your desired course. Call the Moondance office when you have decided on a trip and dates to see if space is available. We can let you know if space is available and even hold a spot while you get your application in.
How do I choose the right trip for me?
It is hard to pinpoint exactly which trip you should take. However, we can steer you in the right direction by offering certain criteria you should consider when selecting your Moondance course. Where do you want to travel? What activities would you like to do? How much time do you have? What are your goals for the summer? Call the Moondance office, and we will be happy to discuss the various programs to find the right one for you.
What length trip should I take?
Though a lot depends on how much time you have available in your summer schedule, we have found that the longer the adventure, the greater the rewards. A three week program enables you to further develop your group’s dynamics, hone your outdoor skills, learn new skills, explore more terrain, and strengthen the bond between your new friends. The two week programs offer a great experience if your summer schedule is a little tighter.
Can I talk to other students who have been on Moondance trips?
Absolutely. We think one of the best ways to really understand how great a Moondance experience can be is to talk to someone who has been on one of our trips. In the back of the catalog is a condensed list of recent Moondance alums. To get names of other students who have been on trips you are interested in, simply call the Moondance office and we will share these with you.
Can parents talk to other Moondance parents?
You bet. It is always great for parents to talk to other parents about their child’s experience. Call the Moondance office and we will help.
Do you conduct reference checks on all students?
If you are a new student, we ask you to submit two adults to give us a recommendation of you ensuring that everyone going on a trip is the kind of motivated student we are seeking. These references can be teachers, coaches or other adults who know you.
How much is the deposit?
The trip deposit is $800 which is applied to your tuition and can be paid by check, Visa, MasterCard or American Express.
When are payments due?
The final balance is due March 1st. If applying after March 1st, the full tuition of the trip is due.
When do I know if I have been accepted?
We will notify you of our receipt of your application and then will touch base with your teacher references. Once we have a positive recommendation from them, we will forward you our acceptance packet that includes everything you will need to know for your trip.
What if my first choice is not available?
We ask you to submit a second choice in case your first choice is full. We will keep you on the waitlist for your first choice should that become available.
When do students on the waitlist hear from Moondance?
As soon as that becomes available, we will notify you of an opening to see if you would like to switch to your first choice. Spaces open when changes occur in students’ plans. The deposit and trip balance are transferable between trips.
How will I know how to prepare for my trip?
In your acceptance packet we have included everything you will need in order to get ready for your trip including: clothing and equipment list, travel information, medical forms, liability releases, etc. This is extremely helpful is staying organized before the summer. Of course, you can always call the Moondance office and we would be happy to assist you in any way.
What if I decide to change trips once I sign up?
Call the Moondance office to see if there is availability in the trip you want to switch to. If there is an opening, we simply need in writing from a parent confirmation of the transfer to a different trip. Once we have their written confirmation, we will send a new acceptance packet.
Can I go on more than one Moondance trip during the summer?
You sure can. Since many of our trips starting and ending dates are close together, you can do a back to back trip if you wish. Call the Moondance office to make arrangements.
