Can my family meet me at the end of my trip?
Absolutely, just let us know who will be picking you up. If it is not a parent, we simply need written permission to be picked up by a friend or other family member.
How will my parents know that I have arrived safely and met my group on opening day?
The first thing you will do is call home to let your parents know you have arrived safely and met your group. If you are traveling internationally, the Moondance office will call your parents to let them know that you arrived safely. Sometimes this call will be made on the next morning since most international flights arrive in the late hours of the night EST.
Are there any extra expenses or fees imposed by the airlines for teens?
If you are flying as an unaccompanied minor, the airlines have set different fees for teens under the age of 15. We suggest you confirm this with your airline prior to departure to make sure all fees are paid in advance. Also keep in mind extra fees for overweight and extra bags. If you are traveling internationally, there may be entrance and exit fees included in your ticket price or listed as a separate fee to be paid at the specific arrival/departure airport. Most entrance/exit fees not included in your ticket will need to be paid in cash. Moondance will keep you update on the country’s specific entrance/exit fees.
Will someone be at the airport on the first day of my trip?
We will always have our leaders at the airport well before you arrive on opening day. Our leaders will touch base with you and your family a couple days before you depart confirming your flight schedule. When arriving to your gateway city, be assured that a Moondance leader will be there to meet you at the first security check point wearing a Moondance t-shirt. We will be there to greet you even if your plane arrives earlier or later than originally expected. If you are traveling as an unaccompanied minor, your leader will be waiting for you at your gate.
What if I have never traveled alone before?
This is usually a very easy day and once you step on that plane, your adventure begins! We have found ways to make this easy for everyone traveling. We will send a packet in the spring with a map detailing your gateway city along with other suggestions to make this travel day easy on everyone.
What if I have trouble with my flights on opening day?
In the unlikely event that you have trouble on opening day, we are here to help and keep everyone informed. You can call our 800 number and the office staff will be sure to inform the trip leaders of delays and cancellations.
What if I am driving to a city where a trip begins, how will I meet my group?
You can find the Moondance groups setting up a home base at the Delta baggage claim area in all of our gateway cities.
