Located in Western North Carolina and the coast of South Carolina, Mountains to Sea is designed for both experienced adventurers and those without any prior backcountry experience. During your Mountains to Sea course, you will be surrounded by over one million acres of rolling mountains and lush forests, all the while experiencing cascading waterfalls, tumbling rivers, and challenging trails in the “big woods” of these southern mountains.

SURFING - FOLLY BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA
Learn to surf on South Carolina Folly Beach or “The Edge of World” as locals call it. Professional instructors will coach you as you learn to pop up and catch a wave. You’ll learn the skills you need to become a surfer and if you already know how to surf you’ll become that much better as you’ll get the best instruction on Folly Beach.

SEA KAYAKING - FOLLY BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA
Explore the South Carolina coast by kayak. First, you’ll get instruction on proper paddling technique and then you will quickly put your skills to test as you travel to some of South Carolinas most remote beaches and undeveloped barrier islands.

CANOPY TOUR - ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA
See the Appalachian Mountains by zip line! You’ll spend a day soaring through the air on zip lines that stretch upwards of 1000 feet as you will be traveling up to 35 miles an hour. This state-of-the-art canopy tour is recognized all over the world. This impressive eco-friendly zip line tour will not only give you a thrill but will leave you in awe at how beautiful the North Carolina mountains are.

BACKPACKING – PISGAH NATIONAL FOREST, NORTH CAROLINA
Spend three days backpacking in Pisgah National Forest as you summit Mt. Mitchell, the highest mountain east of the Mississippi. This is the perfect introduction to backpacking that will give you a chance to experience life in the backcountry.

ROCK CLIMBING – PISGAH NATIONAL FOREST
Go rock climbing in Pisgah National Forest at Looking Glass Rock, a renowned spot for rock climbing on the east coast. Learn the fundamentals of climbing such as knot-tying, top-roping, belaying, rappelling, and of course safety. After spending a day on the granite white dome you’ll travel just down the rope and take a slide and dip at the chilly Sliding Rock.

WHITEWATER RAFTING – OCOEE RIVER, TENNESSEE
Hit the waves of the action-packed Ocoee River, the famed water of the 1996 Olympics. This rafting trip on the upper and middle Ocoee offers non-stop action and will give you a taste of big whitewater on these class III & IV rapids.

WHITEWATER INFLATABLE KAYAKS – NANTAHALA RIVER, NORTH CAROLINA
Jump in your inflatable kayak, or duckie, and put in on the Nantahala River. Complemented with a day on the Ocoee, you will enjoy the excitement of riding waves in a duckie. The Class II – III rapids, which culminate at Nantahala falls, will have you excited for adventure on the river.
