David Hollerith, 21, is a first year Moondance leader we are thrilled to have on board this summer! David was born on the South Carolina coast and moved with his family to Williamsburg, Virginia at the age of eight. For high school, David attended Woodberry Forrest in Orange, Virginia where his love for the outdoors and leadership abilities were honed during a four day Outward Bound adventure with his sophomore class. Following his first trip with OB, David was accepted for a scholarship with the same company and selected a twenty-four day mountaineering and rafting trip in Utah. An alum of Camp Kanuga and Camp Seagull, David feeds off the support of friends in “performing something I was nervous about but deep down wanted to accomplish” and he strives to provide the same support on his Mountains to Sea trip this year. David is a recent graduate of Sewanee: The University of the South where he is a member of the Order of the Gownsman – an honors society on campus – as well as a member of the Sewanee Volunteer Fire Department for his entire four years at Sewanee. David is a leader in every sense of the word and we are delighted to have such a talented and capable individual as part of the Moondance family and look forward to an awesome summer on the Mountains to Sea.
Hannah Wainright, 21, is a four trip Moondance alum eager to get back to Moondance for her first summer as a leader! Originally from St. Simons Island, Georgia – a beautiful barrier island on Georgia’s coast – and is currently a rising senior at the University of Colorado-Boulder. As a teenager, Hannah went on four Moondance trips – Pacific Northwest, the Grand, Rainier, and the Big Wild – and has wanted to come back as a leader since day 1. Her Moondance trips inspired a passion for adventure and for seeing the world that has carried her to the mountains of Colorado for school so that she can be closer to the amazing outdoor opportunities located out West. Serving others has always been important to Hannah and she has had a considerable impact in the Georgia and Colorado chapters of Habitat for Humanity, Walk for Autism, Map International, Triumph Foundation, Relay for Life, and the Special Olympics, just to name a few. Moondance is always excited when one of our own returns to lead a trip and we know that Hannah will do a phenomenal job on in her Southeastern stomping grounds on the Mountains to Sea discovery adventure!
Sonja Thalheimer, 22, is a first year Moondance leader eager to combine her two greatest passions – living in the outdoors and working with teenagers – into one remarkable summer! Sonja is originally from Cary, North Carolina, a small town in central North Carolina, but has called Williamstown, Massachusetts and Williams College home for the past four years. Throughout high school, Sonja participated in many week-long adventure camps in the mountains of her home state of North Carolina. She has been a student on an Outward Bound adventure in Washington state and spent all of Spring 2012 on a NOLS semester in India. After such an amazing experience in the Himalayas, Sonja was in no hurry to return to the states and decided to extend her time abroad with a three week hiking excursion in the Swiss Alps – quite an amazing Spring! Sonja is currently a senior at Williams College and will be finishing her Environmental Science degree in December. At Williams, she is a very active member of the Williams Outing Club and leads a Friday morning sunrise hike every week. Even when enjoying her free time, Sonja is still a very active person, using her passions and gifts leading others into the outdoors or learning more about them herself. We are thrilled to have Sonja leading with Moondance this summer and we look forward to a successful trip in along the Mountains to Sea Trail in North Carolina!
