Big Wild 1: June 20 – July 6, 2013

Paul Liles, 22, was born just outside Concord, North Carolina and was raised on a small cattle farm before moving into city at age eight. He went to high school at Woodberry Forrest in Virginia. It is only natural then that Paul developed a love and appreciation for the outdoors at a very early age and has continued expanding upon it ever since. He was a four year camper at Camp Mondamin in Tuxedo, North Carolina in addition to an Outward Bound and Sail Caribbean alumni. After graduating from the University of Georgia last May, Paul quickly headed west for the myriad of outdoor opportunities in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and has been guiding fly-fishing trips since last summer. This position has afforded Paul the opportunity to share his talents with others, as his “passion for the outdoors is equaled only by his passions for sharing them.” Paul is a energetic and charismatic leader absolutely chomping at the bit to introduce a new batch of future adventurers to the outdoors and we know they will have a blast in his most recent stomping grounds in the Big Wild of Wyoming!

Caroline Germany, 25, is welcomed back to Moondance for her second summer as a leader, having led our Colorado Trail adventure during the summer of 2012. Caroline, who grew up in Atlanta and is a graduate of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, is an alum of Moondance Leadership and NOLS Wind River where she honed her already strong leadership skills. A lover of backpacking and the outdoors in general, Caroline has dedicated her life to getting out and about and has taken several personal trips to the Tetons and Yosemite. Perhaps more importantly, she has made it her mission to serve others and be a great role model to younger people. Caroline has been teaching first grade at the Atlanta Youth Academy – a school for low-income and at-risk students – for the past two years. Her kind heart and love for all that the outdoors have to offer make Caroline an exceptional role model and Moondance is proud to call her a leader on our Big Wild trips this summer!

Jonas Hill, 22, is a first year Moondance leader joining the family from Music City, USA – Nashville, Tennessee! Jonas is a recent graduate from Sewanee: The University of the South and attended high school in Nashville at Ensworth. Jonas fine tuned his outdoor leadership skills at Sewanee by serving in a variety of different positions. With the Sewanee Outing Program, he was selected as a student leader for a 22 person fall break Appalachian Trail hike in addition to serving as a Pre-Orientation leader giving incoming students a taste of all Sewanee has to offer outside of the classroom and on the Domain. Jonas was also a leader for a student-run program called Well Directed Curiosity – an afterschool program designed to develop student’s curiosity for nature and outdoor activities. Jonas spent last summer living and studying in Spain where he deepened his love for new cultures and for speaking Spanish. Jonas attributes his love of the outdoors to having someone show an interest in him at a young age and take him on hiking, canoeing, and camping adventures. Jonas hopes to recreate that magic and to be the spark that ignites a whole new group of adventurers and leaders in his Big Wild groups this summer!
