Backpacking Update 7/31/03
Richard just called in to give us an update from the BRE 3 and he sounded awesome! The group has just finished their first backpacking section and he said they have weathered through some rain but the team's spirits are high. They completed two day hikes to John's Rock and Cedar Rock. The first night they were able to camp by a waterfall and the group enjoyed the surrounding backcountry scenery. Now, from the group.
Kevin Burns and Sasha can really cook a mean grilled cheese in the backcountry kitchen That has been a favorite amongst the group. Preston, despite having first day blisters, still maintained a great pace on the trail. Drew was Leader of the Day on Day 3 and set an excellent pace for the group and they sped through the day hike. Tucker has some amazing nerf football skills and really seems to be enjoying himself with his new friends. Hadley reminds the instructors of a previous BRE alum and is keeping the spirits high with her great personality and witty comments. Susanna looks like a professional in the woods even though she is from a big city. Kevin Flannery represents Chi-town well with his comical sarcasm. Hannah set the trip off to a good start as Leader of the Day on the first day on the trail.
The group is excited about the rock climbing section which starts tomorrow. We look forward to hearing from them soon.
Update 8/5/03
Drew just called the office to report that BRE 3 is rocking it out in the NC mountains! He sounded great and although the group has had some rainy days they were able to get in two full days of rock climbing which was awesome! Here is the group update from Drew...
Kevin Flannery boosts the group moral with his incredible rapping skills. He keeps the group laughing and is an awesome standard of encouragement. Sasha overcame her rock climbing fears while encouraging the group to do better. She always has a smile on her face and is a huge asset to the group.
Susanna is the best cherades player in the group. She takes full advantage of free time with her new friends.
Tucker destroyed the rock climbing routes during this section. The guides had to make up new ones because he did such an awesome job.
Kevin Burns has taken a huge interest in the wildlife on the trail. He is always the first to point out different animals to his team.
Drew is the best Uno player in the group. He is also loving the time spent with new friends.
Hadley has stepped up as an incredible leader. Drew said she is a strong motivation and is constantly aware and respectful of her team. Hannah keeps the outdoor skills flowing as she made some awesome quesadillas in the backcountry. The group has loved participating in the backcountry meals.
Preston is Mr. Positive in the group. Even though his tent turned into a lake the other night he maintained a humorous attitude and took the situation for what it was.
The group is officially out of the backcountry and they are on their way to the ropes course. The had a wonderful time and are excited to take full advantage of their last days on the BRE 3!
