“It’s funny how a group of strangers meet for an adventure not knowing what to expect and 3 weeks later, we’ve developed friendships stronger than any others in our lives.”

Immerse yourself in the unique atmosphere and stunning beauty of southwestern Colorado as you explore the state's largest and wildest mountain range -- the famed San Juans. Experience a region where the dry, clear air and unique culture of the desert meet the cool fir forests and snowy peaks of the high country. On the Rocky Mountain Way you'll make new friends and build memories to treasure for a lifetime.
Whitewater Rafting -- Arkansas River
We begin the Rocky Mountain Way with a 2 day trip on the Brown's Canyon section of the Arkansas River, one of the most exciting whitewater runs in the Rockies. With the help of professional rafting outfitters, you and your crew will learn to work together as you guide your raft through class III and IV rapids beneath the towering rock walls of this awe-inspiring mountain gorge.
Rock Climbing -- Gunnison National Forest, CO
After this first taste of whitewater rafting, travel to Gunnison National Forest for two days of rock climbing instruction. Surrounded by lodgepole pines and aspen trees, you and your new friends will continue to bond as a team as you climb rock walls and belay one another. With the help of professional instructors, you learn belay skills and climbing techniques in order to confidently enjoy these new adventures and build new skills, all while savoring the crisp mountain air and natural beauty that you came for.
Backpacking -- San Juan Mountains
Put on your pack to begin the core experience of your adventure -- a seven-day backpacking expedition into the heart of the San Juans. This range offers high peaks, spectacular views, and awesome mountain streams and lakes, all just waiting to be explored. Over the course of the next full week, you gain a comfort level for living in wild places and become a seasoned wilderness traveler. Conditions permitting, you will set out to summit one of Colorado's famous peaks, where you will be rewarded with panoramic views of incredible San Juan backcountry. As you scramble to the summit, remember one student's wisdom: "The toughness of the climb makes the view even better." Moreover, your accomplishment will taste much sweeter because you've shared it with close companions!
Whitewater Rafting -- Arkansas River
Our last day brings the circle to a close as we travel back to the Arkansas River. Once again, river guides work with us as we shoot class III and IV rapids, this time through the boulder-strewn Royal Gorge in the shadow of the famous Collegiate Peaks. After drying off from the river, we conclude our Rocky Mountain Way expedition with a final banquet feast. Stories and laughs are shared, final snapshots are taken, and hugs are extended as we celebrate our incredible Moondance adventure. |
