Can I call home?

We limit the phone calls home to two per trip unless it is an emergency situation. An AT&T or MCI calling card work well when calling long distance. Pre-paid calling cards are another good option. We limit the phone calls since we want everyone to share this experience with their group. Oftentimes when students call home, they get homesick and start thinking about what they are missing instead of appreciating what they are doing. One of the lessons we hope to teach you is to work through the challenges and accomplishments and communicate within your group.

Can I send mail on my program?

On each trip you will have opportunities to write and mail letters and postcards to family and friends.

Can I get mail on my program?

Since our programs are 14-28 days, we feel that it is important for everyone to share this experience together. If a student receives mail, they immediately think about home, their friends and what they are missing and not about their experience with their group. It can be an awkward situation as well if a group gets mail and two or three folks didn't receive any. For that reason, we feel that this can all wait until you get home.

Can my parents call me?

Since we are constantly on the move and spending a great deal of time where we are not accessible by phone, it is impossible for your parents to call you while you're on your program. If there is an emergency, parents can always reach you by calling our office and our staff will make the necessary connections to put you in touch.

How can my parents find out how my trip is going?

Visit our website to find the latest on your teen's trip! As often as possible, leaders will call our office or email updates regarding everyone's experiences. You can find out highlights of backpacking from your son or daughter or feel the excitement as the group spots their first bald eagle! Parents and friends can follow the trip by visiting our Trip Logs on our website at www.moondanceadventures.com. Parents and friends must understand that our leaders are not always close to a phone or computer, so these updates may only happen once or twice each week.

When will my parents know that I have arrived safely on my travel day?

As soon as you arrive at your final destination, your Moondance leaders will ask you to call home to touch base with your parents to let them know you arrived safely. Moondance leaders also call the office periodically to receive travel updates and to let the office know that everyone arrived safely.

Can I bring my cell phone?

You may bring your cell phone to have during your travels at the very beginning and end of your trip. However, we don't allow cell phones once you've arrived and called home. Moondance leaders will keep them safely tucked away until the end of your trip, but many students opt not to bring them.
