What kinds of teens join Moondance?
One of the most important things we do during the winter months is to travel the country promoting our programs to teenagers who share this same thirst for adventure. The bottom line is that these are great kids - positive, motivated and enthusiastic. It is amazing to see a group of excited young people work together. This positive energy is contagious and helps to quickly form a tight bond within the group.
Where are the students from?
Our students come from across the United States and abroad. In 2003, Moondance students came from 34 different states as well as England, Germany, Singapore and Canada. Because we are based in Atlanta, we have a lot of students from the southeast, but we also limit the number of students coming from a certain area on a specific trip. We feel that the benefits are heightened when you share this experience with folks from different parts of the country. We travel throughout the winter promoting our programs across the US.
May I come with a friend?
It is great to share an experience like Moondance with a friend, but we strongly feel that the greatest rewards are when you do this without knowing anyone prior to the start of your trip. Therefore, we will encourage friends to enroll in entirely different courses or request that you are placed in separate sections of the same trip. If you choose to do a course with a friend, we limit the number of friends to a maximum of two per group.
Do I need a passport?
You will need a passport to attend our programs in Canada, France, Australia, South Africa and South America. For all other trips, a driver's license or photo ID will be fine.
Will I be with teens my own age?
Moondance offers many sections of the same trip, so you will be with friends who are generally within a year of your age and grade.
What if I don't know anyone?
We encourage everyone to take an adventure on their own, so you will find that most people on your trip will be in the same position as you. By the second day however, you'll be sharing stories and laughing as if you were long-time friends.
What if I don't get along with someone in my group?
Though you may experience a little apprehension on the first day of your Moondance trip, new faces and new personalities will become old friends by the end of your adventure. Each person will add a unique and positive component to your experience; you'll find that they will become a great source of encouragement during difficult climbs or will provide endless laughter throughout the day.
