Why does Moondance travel in small groups?

Our philosophy all along has been about teamwork and community. We travel in small groups so that each person not only receives significant individual attention, but also becomes an integral and valued member of a team. The tight bond that forms within the group is extraordinary and the friendships established even after a few weeks are very strong. It is not unusual to have an emotional farewell at the end of your course.

How many people are in these small groups? What are the groups like?

Students are divided into co-ed groups with 8-12 other students along with two adult leaders. All students are similar in age to one another. By living in small groups, students learn first to give and rely on one another to create a vibrant, healthy group dynamic. You will confront and solve a diverse and exciting set of challenges as a team on a Moondance expedition.

What is the male/female ratio?

We aim to have a 50/50 ratio on each trip and generally the ratio is almost even. We strive to balance the group into half girls and half guys. However, this is not always the case.

Will I be grouped with people my age?

We offer multiple sections of each trip in order to group students of similar ages and grades together. We try to keep everyone within 2 grade levels of each other. See our 2004 Program Dates to find the ages of the students on individual trips. Different programs are geared for students of different ages. For example, the Costa Rica Venture is geared towards students who are just completing their sophomore, junior and senior year.
