"Moondance changed my life in a lot of ways. I could not be any more thankful that I did this trip and had the experience. I honestly don’t know what was my favorite part of the trip was because each day had so many beautiful aspects and challenges. I enjoyed myself thoroughly and wouldn’t change anything for the world. I had the time of my life.”- Chauncey Leggett, Tarboro, NC

BACKPACKING AND HOMESTAY - CORDILLERA
MOUNTAINS
After your group arrives in San Jose, you’ll venture
outside the city to the lush Costa Rican rainforests for a chance to see a part
of the country like never before. During your canopy tour, you'll be suspended in the air on tree platforms and zip lines and experience the lush forests at close range. You’ll
then travel to the Cordillera
Mountains to be immersed in the culture during a home stay. You'll explore the beautiful mountains and each day will be filled with brilliant
waterfalls, delicate orchids, limestone caves, and rare birds. Your home stay will be in the heart of the rainforest. During your time with the Fonseca family, you’ll be able to improve your
Spanish while helping to prepare traditional meals, engage in local customs,
and participate in community games.
SURFING - TAMARINDO & PLAYA HERMOSA
Your group will take the scenic
drive to the western Pacific. Here you
will be able to spend a few days enjoying the Costa Rican sun on the beautiful
beaches of Tamarindo and Playa Hermosa. In these warm waters you’ll learn safe
surfing techniques and how to read ocean conditions. After paddling into the
surf and catching some big waves, you will soon understand why Costa Rica is
an international surfing destination.
COMMUNITY SERVICE - EPI and El TIGRE
Now you'll have a chance to experience Costa Rica in a whole new light. During our time with the Ecology Project International, we'll learn that the leatherback sea turtle is a critically endangered species and we'll work to protect the
turtles and their nesting areas. Participate in beach patrols along the Caribbean shorelines where we look for sea turtle nesting
areas and in essence protect this species from further endangerment.
At El Tigre, we'll spend time with local children and help teach English. You'll be embraced by this small and intimate Costa Rican village and will never forget your experience with such wonderful people.
WHITEWATER RAFTING - PACUARE AND REVENTAZON RIVERS
In between the homestay and community service, we'll have a chance to ride class III and IV rapids in the warm waters of the Pacuare and Revantazon Rivers. Your adrenalin will be pumping while you navigate two of the most famous rivers in the nation with world class guides.
