introductory

Located in Western North Carolina and the outskirts of Charleston, South Carolina, Mountains to Sea is designed for both experienced adventurers and those without any prior backcountry experience. During your Mountains to Sea course, you will be surrounded by over one million acres of rolling mountains and lush forests, all the while experiencing cascading waterfalls, tumbling rivers, and challenging trails in the "big woods" of these southern mountains.

TRIP GEAR - EQUIPMENT AND CLOTHING
We have made it easy to help you find the right gear for your adventure. We have partnered with Half-Moon Outfitters on approved gear. Purchase gear at Half-Moon Outfitters for your trip .

ROCK CLIMBING - LOOKING GLASS ROCK
Blue Ridge Expedition begins with a climbing section at Looking Glass Rock. Accompanied by professional rock climbing instructors, they will introduce you to the thrill of high places in a spectacular setting. You'll spend two days rock climbing at Looking Glass Rock, a massive outcrop that is considered one of the finest climbing areas in the East. Your guides will teach you the fundamentals of rock climbing such as top-roping, belaying, and rappelling with a continuing emphasis on proper safety procedures. Looking Glass offers a wide-range of climbing that is appropriate for all levels. Your instructors will help you select routes with the right degree of challenge as your abilities improve.

BACKPACKING - PISGAH NATIONAL FOREST
After rock climbing, your group will embark on a backpacking section, hiking through the densely forested slopes of Pisgah National Forest. After becoming familiar with your gear, your group will spend the next 5 days hiking in one of the wildest and most spectacular regions in the Southeast. You will have the chance to hike through rhododendron tunnels and under canopied forests, along mossy mountain streams and up to hidden waterfalls, and end atop remote John Rock for a magnificent panoramic view of the surrounding mountains.

ROPES COURSE - NANTAHALA NATIONAL FOREST
Ready for new adventures, your group heads to the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) where you will spend a day on their ropes/challenge course. This ropes course offers a fun and exciting way to challenge yourself, reaching beyond preconceived limits. The final element of the ropes course will leave you and your friends amazed and exhilarated… the "giant swing" will be an experience that you’ll treasure for years to come.

WHITEWATER RAFTING - OCOEE RIVER
Your group will head to the Ocoee River, the site of the 1996 Olympic whitewater competition! Led by professional river guides, you will experience the roller-coaster ride of nearly continuous Class III and IV Ocoee whitewater that is set within a rugged mountain gorge.

SURFING - FOLLY BEACH
After you hang up your paddles, it's time to head south to Folly Beach - the prime surfing area outside of Charleston, South Carolina.  During your day lesson with professional surfers, you will learn all the techniques needed to develop into the next Kelly Slater, including the pop up, waxing your board correctly and how to read ocean currents.  The coast of South Carolina offers some of the best surfing on the Atlantic!

SEA KAYAKING
The Charleston coast of South Carolina offers some of the best sea kayaking terrain along the entire eastern shelf.  The area is still rather undiscovered and unexplored, making it an ideal location for a kayaking adventure.  The combination of a heart workout and a more developed understanding of your breathtaking surroundings make a day of sea kayaking an absolute must for any Mountains to Sea expedition.
